Why not try out some of our suggest activities to get more active and have fun while you are doing it. Here are some cheap activities that are bound to set you on your way to a healthier happier you.

Walking

Simply increase the amount you walk is a great way to increase your fitness and get some fresh air. It may mean you need to wrap up warm but as long as you have plenty of layers on the benefits will definitely pay. Walking stimulates your cardiovascular system whilst boasting muscle endurance of the lower muscles such as your legs and hips.

Running and Jogging

Some people believe they can not run. This is not true. Running or jogging will put more demand on your body rather than walking but the benefits are greater. Run or jog at a pace which best suits you. There is no point in exhausting yourself because you will soon lose interest and motivation. Slowly build up the distance and speed of which you run and set yourself small manageable targets to achieve. When you achieve your targets you will get a huge sense of achievement. If you ensure you change your route regularly then this ensures it stays interesting and you won’t get bored.

Cycling

Cycling is an aerobic exercise that works your lower body and cardiovascular system. Before spending your money on purchasing a bike it is recommended you make sure you enjoy the activity first. The great thing about cycling is that it is a low impact exercise so it does not put a lot of stress onto your joints. You can start with small distances and the amount of time you spend on your bike and slowly build it up.

Swimming

There is probably a swimming pool near your home and workplace so why not check it out . Swimming works the whole body and is a great way to trim up. As you become better at swimming and increase your pace it then becomes an aerobic workout. Most pools offer swimming lessons and why not try aqua aerobics? Fun and inspiring classes where you will get a great work out and probably pick up some new like minded friends on the way.

Rollerblading

Is an effective form of exercise. It is as beneficial as running or cycling and is actually easier as it builds the required muscles easier than those required for running or cycling. It works your complete upper leg, rear, lower back and as well as your arms if you are gently swinging them. It provides a great aerobic exercise and is great for burning calories.

Dancing

Dance is a wonderful exercise. Despite all the claims there is no such thing as not being able to dance all that is required is a small dose of confidence. There are so many dance forms out there that you simply have to find one which will suit you and you will enjoy the most. Street, salsa, jazz, modern, tap, samba, ballet or belly dancing to name but a few that all provide a great work out. Check out what is available in your local area and go and visit a few. You are bound to find a great atmosphere and meet new friends.

Badminton

Is a great sport for all round fitness. It provides an aerobic workout whilst building up your endurance and stamina. Simply hit the shuttle cock over the net and you are away. The game needs to be played with two people or more for both recreational and competitive games. There are over 3,500 clubs in the UK many who invite beginners along so it may not be necessary to take a partner as you will probably find one there as it is a very sociable game.

Martial Arts

Not for the faint hearted but will give you an incredible work out while learning the ability to protect yourself and have fun all at the same time. Not only do you receive a great work out but it is very good for improving self confidence, discipline, stamina, strength, metal capacity and burning fat. There are many different forms of martial arts such as Judo, Kickboxing, Thai boxing, Boxing, Karate, Jujitsu, Kung Fu to name a but a few. We recommend you do some research into which type of martial you would like and make sure you have a well qualified instructor.

With all exercise it is important to stretch before and after you take part and carry out a warm up and warm down to prevent injury. All forms of exercise help to reduce stress and provide you with bundles of energy.

It is important not to try and make drastic changes but find something that you enjoy and can easily be built into your routine. Why not get you friends involved? Whether it’s walking, running or cycling the social aspect should mean it becomes a lot more fun.
